Core Initiative Summary: Professional Development

Mandate

As per the Standing Committee on Student Recruitment Terms of Reference (SCSR TOR), Article XIII, Section 1 — A Professional Development Working Group (PD-WG) will be struck each year to coordinate professional development for the GCSR membership.

Professional development initiatives include, but are not limited to, the following objectives:

  1. Exchange of information among GCSR Member institutions.
  2. Development and communication of common procedures, where desirable, applicable to the recruitment function.
  3. Introduction of new recruitment staff to their colleagues across the province and the organizational structure of the GCSR and SCSR.
  4. Provide opportunity for professional development though various means, including, but not limited to: Webinars, sessions at the annual OURA conference and networking opportunities.

Initiative Lead

As per the SCSR TOR Article II, Section 4h – The Chair, Professional Development Working Group (PD-WG) , is responsible for, the execution of annual onboarding, professional development, and networking opportunities, as referenced in Article XIII.

Interested Parties

NameDescription
GCSRThe member institutions provide the mandate to the SCSR and are the first level of approval required for changes to be made to the SCSR TOR who reports to OURA.
SCSRThe elected Standing Committee is voted into their positions by the GCSR at the annual AGM in February and is responsible for overseeing and executing the collective initiatives stated in the TOR.
OUACThe OUAC is an ex officio member of the SCSR that provides administrative support to the SCSR and typically presents onboarding information and updates to the GCSR membership.
Host School (if applicable)Should The Workshop conference occur in person, the host school for a given year is determined by a rotational schedule of GCSR member institutions, managed by the SCSR and agreed upon by the GCSR.
Professional Development Working Group (PD-WG)Professional Development Working Group (PD-WG) is Chaired by the elected member from the SCSR and is comprised of volunteers from the GCSR who collaborate to plan, organize and execute onboarding, professional development, and networking opportunities for the collective.
Sponsors (if applicable)The PD-WG actively solicits sponsorships from external vendors to supplement registration fees and add value to the in-person conference, should it occur.
OURA PD CommitteeThe Chair, Professional Development Working Group (PD-WG) liaisons with OURA PD sub-committee to share information and assist with OURA PD activities.
OURAIn the event that a budget carry-forward amount is available at the end of the fiscal year, OURA has agreed to hold the money in their account, so that it is not lost in the host institution’s budget year-end processes.

Associated Documents and Resources

Associated documents are typically passed on from the Past-Chair from the previous host to the New Co-Chairs at the conclusion of Workshop each year.
